Running 17.5 Blinky so would assume not quite so necessary to run really tight. However will tighten up slightly and see what happens.

Does the optional belt tensioner work?

Might well have been stones but who can tell afterwards?

The optional belt tensioner is more to stop vibration at high speed, so not really needed with 17.5. Make sure all gaps between the spool pulley teeth are clean; often crap can get squashed in there and make the belt more likely to come off.

Is it a new or used kit? Belts can soften up over time, so if its a used kit a new belt might help. Especially if its been anywhere near WD40.

Brand new car, first time out. Impressed with the car just this odd belt thing. Might well just have been a few odd stones but never had it happen before. Set up is straight kit no changes so belt tension should be correct?

Will try slightly tighter.

Do the low friction belts help at all?

The low friction belts are stronger (the kit ones can snap with more powerful motors), but again with 17.5 you should be fine and I don't think it will help this issue.

Could the lipos be moving and pushing the belt? They do sit very close to the belt and the stops are pretty small. Make sure they're well taped in and that they can't ride up over the inner lipo stops (the little plastic nuts). Also make sure the belt is clear of the electrics on the other side.

Other than that I can only suggest getting an experienced Xray driver to have a look at it, in case something isn't quite right. I've been running Xrays a couple of years now on outdoor tracks and only had a belt come off once (on my wet car after it got too friendly with the WD40).

Yes the first thing I checked when it happened was that there was enough clearance between belt and everything else. It is tight but OK. Most cars these days are also fairly mean on the clearance and not had a problem before.

Have checked clean teeth etc and all ok so have gone one notch tighter and will run the car again on Wednesday so will see what happens. may well have been just an odd stone, at least am hoping so.

Thank you very much for the help.

Ran the T4 tonight for the first time in real anger. Equalled my best time ever with it and have to say I have never had a car that can be raced so hard and still hang in there as this one does. I am seriously impressed.

Ran with the belt one notch tighter than kit and had no problems at all all evening so guess it was either a stone or just unlucky. Certainly seems to be OK now.

Strangely on Sunday I had the same problem. 5 laps in to a race the front belt popped off. Put it back on and had no more trouble but it is kind of worrying. Will try the low friction option next. Cannot see anything that would have caused it.

Hi Paul,
I recently bought a Xray T3 2012 (to retire me old TC3) for my 17.5 touring stock class. I am looking for a balance set i can use both on carpet during the winter and as well on for the summer when are asphalt track is dry. would you happen to know a good balanced setup? we all run rubber tires not allowed foam.

Thank you for your time!
