Dear NT1 designers,

First of all, the car you designed is really fantastic, well done ! wow !

After having raced the car this week-end (final / elite) on a track with quite high bite and fast turns, I could notice that the front tire - external to the fast turns - wear was on the positive camber side. Now, I'm already running 2 and more degrees negative in the front and setting more would start to be too much and affect the car handling.

I assume that one way to compensate would be to go for more caster (I hate that) or to lower the front upper arms but this results in less turn-in... :(. The last (and maybe best) solution I would see would be to increase camber rise on the front but this would need new parts that do not exist today...

Do you envisage to produce options so as to be able to give more camber rise to the front (ie make the upper arm shorter) ?

You suggestions are welcome !!!
Z

Z,

For medium grip on my local track (large european style with fast turns) I normally run -2.0d front camber as well. However, when the grip comes up on race day, I use either 3.0d or 3.5d on the left front since we have a VERY high speed right sweeper. I also have to increase the right front to either 2.5d or 3.0d as well. On the L/R rears, I have to use 4.5d/4.0d when the grip comes up. :D

The car handles just as great as the camber change is needed to keep the tire flat in the corners when the grip comes up. Simply put, the more grip the track has, the more the tire rims flex and the chassis rolls. This causes the outside tires to roll onto the outer edges of their tread surface more.

Don't be afraid to increase negative camber.

One last thing. The amount of flex for each tire manufacturers rim may differ a lot. You may need different camber settings when changing from one tire manufacturer to another.

Case in point is when I first started Nitro I ran Jaco's and ATS tires which have either the same or very close flex characteristics. Then I tried Kawahara's, as suggested by the local fast guys, which have a much stiffer rim. They started wearing the inside a lot more and I also lost a lot of grip, due to the hard rim and my stiff anti-roll bar setup. They required a 1.0d reduction in negative camber (i.e. from -3.0d to -2.0d) to work correctly.

Tire rims are important! It even helps to have the same tire(shore and brand) on different rims.. some manufactures provide this... i've also noticed that the material of the rimm itself is important, we've had rims with the same design and totally different flex because of the use of other materials...

XRAY has developed special wheels for the NT1 and will have the foam tires glued on the special NT1 wheels available shortly. More news to come shortly.
